You will receive one or more of the cool gifts listed below.
“Ancient Cinema” is an art installation by Henry Jesionka featuring
recently discovered Roman artifacts from Zadar, Croatia, that may well
be the remains of the world’s first film projector.
“Ancient Cinema” takes the form of a speculative archaeological find in
which recently discovered Roman artifacts from Zadar are used to explore
the way history is constructed to tell compelling stories.
*ABOUT THE PROJECT*
Based on speculative evidence, “Ancient Cinema” presents a working
recreation of an ancient Roman movie projector, projecting the world’s
first animated “films”. Along with this groundbreaking discovery, the
installation will feature a short documentary about the sourcing and
analysis of the artifacts, a comprehensive Website examining the
precedents for the Roman projector and other proto-cinematic innovations
in the ancient world, along with the evidence itself: the original
artifacts discovered in a Croatian flea market.
*HOW YOUR DONATION WILL HELP*
To complete this complex, multifaceted installation, I need your help.
I received funding from the Canada Council in 2011, but the funds are
almost depleted and I still need to complete the final fabrication of
the working projector, the myriad components and their installation into
the museum.
